One in four adults provides care for a family member
If you or a loved one desires to continue to live independently and can remain healthy and active at home with some limited assistance, then home health care is a very viable alternative. We have seven office locations in Allegan, Dowagiac, Holland, Hudsonville, Muskegon, Paw Paw, St. Joseph and have home caregivers that provide services to seniors in the surrounding areas of Southwest Michigan. If you need help, our in home caregivers are right around the corner in your neighborhood.
Sometimes an immediate need arises or we are caught off guard by an accident or sudden illness. We know that if families plan ahead and discuss caregiving needs, it’s much easier to make the transition to homecare if or when a sudden change happens.
We all become care providers at some point in our lives. We may care for our parents, our spouse, our children, our neighbors, or other loved ones and even friends. As we age, we find that we have to make choices and decisions on caregiving needs as well as medical or physical needs for our loved ones.
Discussing future needs for your loved one...
Have the important conversation and ask your loved one questions about what type of help they would want if there comes a time when help is needed in their home. Discuss early and often and have some of the basic questions answered – this ensures that everyone in the family knows what the person’s wishes are.
When having these discussions, try to use examples relating to people that your aging loved one knows and talk about what those individuals have done. It is easier for your senior loved one to comprehend their situation if they know a person or people who have made the move towards the assistance of in home care caregivers.
